Tech Mash Up: "Using Machine Learning to Predict Customer Behaviour"

Presented by DecisionWorks Consulting Inc.

 DWLogo2018

A good business strives to meet their client’s needs. The challenge in marketing to new clients is knowing exactly what those needs are and when they are required to be met. Think what the impact to your customer experience, your marketing strategy, and your bottom line would be if you could predict your client’s next purchase and when that purchase is likely to happen.

By relying solely on their own historical data, businesses can become masters of predicting customer behavior without relying on external data sources and external vendors to provide predictive business intelligence using more traditional demographic profiling.

Working with representatives from Applied Computer Science at the University of Winnipeg, DecisionWorks has proven reusable solutions to take historical member purchasing patterns (big data), and, using customized machine learning algorithms, predict future purchases with a high degree of accuracy.

The innovative aspect of this work is that state-of-the-art techniques in recurrent neural networks (RNN) will be used to make high-accuracy predictions on financial data, which is a new problem domain for these networks. The result will be greater differentiation for these financial services organizations, improved customer service and higher returns for members and stakeholders.

TechFast: "Continuous, Real-Time Data Movement"

Presented By

Skip

This session is geared towards both junior and senior Data professionals and leaders. Structured as a technical talk focusing on leading-edge data practices, the information shared can benefit Data Professionals at businesses of any size. Session attendees will be able to enhance their SMEs, and contribute to their organization in continuous, real-time data movement

At Skip, we have millions of orders coming from over a million active customers for food from thousands of their favorite restaurants each month. With that, we’ve accumulated terabytes of data from different applications feeding into RDS Databases, which in turn feeds into our internal systems for queries, analytics, machine learning and statement generation. These heavy operations increase the load on the application databases, which results in challenges for all stakeholders.

How could everyone at SkipTheDishes have access to near real-time data? Because traditional ETL fails to meet the demand, Skip’s Data Team designed a solution using Kinesis stream. This streams data as the events occur on the application side into our Data Lake. The Data Lake is made accessible to different internal teams using Athena tables and Redshift using Redshift Spectrum.
