Payworks: Paying it forward

“The Payworks philosophy on corporate social responsibility is to pay it forward,” says Amanda Soloway, a marketing coordinator with Payworks. “We focus on community giving in Winnipeg, as that’s where majority of our employees live and work, but we support a number of national charities and local initiatives in all of the communities across Canada where we have offices.”
Giving back to the communities in which they operate is part of Payworks’ DNA – so much so that they’ve instituted a community investment component as part of the list of corporate benefits their employees receive.
“In November 2015, we added a Pay it Forward Day to our employee benefits list,” said Soloway. “This enables Payworks employees to take off one day per calendar year to donate their time to a not-for-profit organization of their choosing.”
Payworks’ emphasis on community investment and corporate responsibility ranges from participating in local chambers of commerce – helping its communities develop through providing business expertise – to offering environmentally friendly, paperless or other “green” initiatives. The corporation also supports a variety of charities who affect local and national change through both monetary and in-kind donations.
“Payworks is a Major Business Partner of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation, and a National Partner of Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) Canada,” said Soloway. “We support these organizations throughout the year and send volunteers to each of their respective fundraising days (Tim Hortons Camp Day and McHappy Day).
“We also make an annual donation to RMHC Canada in December in lieu of mailing out paper holiday cards to all of our clients, partners, and suppliers. This has been our practice since 2007.
“The other organization we support in a major way is United Way Centraide Canada. Through Payworks’ annual national United Way corporate campaign, which includes employee donations and a corporate match, Payworks invested over $170,000 in our communities in 2016.
“Altogether, we support more than 75 organizations across Canada each year through sponsorships, donations, or employee fundraising matches.”
