April/May 2017 - 2017-18 Budget: new spending to help spur innovation
The federal government’s 2017-18 budget isn’t revolutionary – but the tech industry will continue to grow.
While modest with limited new spending and no major taxation changes, the word innovation appears 212 times in the official document. This is good news for us.
With funding in key areas for skills development, venture capital, clusters and procurement, this is a positive budget for the tech sector overall.
In Manitoba, the budget hits on some key focus areas such as access to talent/skills, markets and capital.

April/May 2017 - Bell MTS will bring $1B in LTE, fibre innovations to Manitoba
This February, BCE Inc. received federal approval for its purchase of MTS. In March, Bell MTS launched and announced an ambitious plan for province-wide investment and innovation.
MTS is a Manitoba staple, around for as long as many Manitobans can remember. With the acquisition, Bell is adding its weight to MTS’ already-dominant market share in Manitoba – and helping Manitobans trust their home-grown telecom to provide world-class services and upgrades into the future.

April/May 2017 - The Innovators 2017 recap
On April 19, the sixth anniversary of The Innovators brought ICTAM members and friends together for an evening of food, drink and conversation.
At the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, people met again or for the first time, sharing a networking and social experience unlike any other in the Winnipeg ICT community.
“In putting on events like The Innovators, our hope is always to stimulate discussion, educate and inspire success in our members,” said Christian Dandeneau, ICTAM’s board chair. “If you’re able to use tonight to grow and develop, we’ll have done our job.”

March 2017 - #Canada150? How about #IBM100
They’ve come a long way since scales and punch-cards.
Historically, hardware has been International Business Machines – better known as IBM’s – bread and butter. These days, they’re looking a little… well, softer.
“Our organization has gone through so many transformations over the years,” says Loren Cisyk, General Manager, Prairies for IBM. “But despite that, it’s fairly easy to boil down what we’re all about.
“Ten to fifteen years ago, if you asked anyone what IBM was, the answer would have been PCs, hardware, that kind of thing. These days it’s all about cognitive and cloud computing.”
